Das Projekt “Deplastify the Planet” ist eine Erasmus+ KA220 Schulkooperation, die von der Projektkoordinatorschule Sint-Gummaruscollege aus Belgien und vier Partnerschulen aus Spanien, Portugal, Österreich und Kroatien durchgeführt wird.
Diese Kooperation wurde ins Leben gerufen, um Umweltkenntnisse und Umweltbewusstsein bei Lehrer*innen und Schüler*innen in Bezug auf Plastikmüll zu fördern. Die Hauptpriorität dieses Projekts ist der Schutz der Umwelt besonders durch die Reduktion von Plastik und Plastikmüll. Die Partner haben seit 2022 Maßnahmen zur Entwicklung einer umweltfreundlichen Schule erarbeitet und Erfahrungen und wirksame Methoden zur Verringerung von Plastikmüll ausgetauscht und gesammelt.
Vom 29. Jänner bis 6. Februar 2024 nahmen die Schüler*innen Julia Pojer, Ronja Poier, Hannah Leitner und Timon Sailer gemeinsam mit den Erasmus+ Award Gewinnern Mag. Ilse Prenn und Mag. Bernd Fiechtl am 5. Schüler*innenaustausch in Aruba teil. Die Partnerschule Colegio Arubano hatte insgesamt 30 Partnerschüler*innen eingeladen, am vorletzten Austausch im Rahmen des Eramsus+ Projektes „Deplastify the Planet“ teilnzunehmen.
Die Austauschschüler*innen waren alle bei Gastfamilien untergebracht, wo sie soziale und kulturelle Eindrücke sammeln konnten und die arubanische Gastfreundlichkeit kennenlernten.
Das Treffen wurde von einem umfangreichen Programm umrahmt. Es beinhaltete:
· Kennenlernaktivitäten und Besichtigung der Schule
· Eröffnungsrede der Premierministerin von Aruba und des Schulleiters
· Präsentationen der Partnerschulen
· Arbeitsgruppen zur Finalisierung des Comicbuches mit Onlinetreffen mit Vertretern des Comicbuchverlages
· Arbeitsgruppen um das Marketing des Comicbuches voranzutreiben
· kulturelle Aktivitäten – Bon-Bini-Festival (Geschichte und Kultur Arubas)
· Inselwanderung, Rundfahrt und Besichtigung von Oranjestadt
· ökologische Aktivitäten – Müllsammelaktion am Strand mit Umweltminister und Analyse von Sandproben auf Plastikmüll und anderen Schadstoffen
Im Rahmen dieses Projektes wurde ein Comicbuch von den Schüler*innen in Kooperation mit einem belgischen Verlag erstellt. Beim ersten Treffen in Österreich wurden die Charaktere und Comicfiguren kreiert. Weiters wurden erste Entwürfe für Handlung und den Umweltherausforderung, welchen sich die Helden entgegenstellen, skizziert. In den weiteren Treffen in Kroatien, Portugal, Spanien und Aruba in Kooperation mit dem belgischen Verleger wurden Handlung und Figuren fertiggestellt und finalisiert. Das Comicbuch wird eine Auflage von mehreren tausend Exemplaren haben.

Saturday, 27th January 2024 – Sunday, 4th February 2024
Saturday
On Saturday at 11am, the host families picked up the students from the blue village hotel. Some of them went to the donkey center, to a dinner and went to the beach. The host family and the student from Austria got to know each other.
Sunday
On Sunday, they got to know each other too and went to the beach. Some of them also visited the butterfly farm, where they got many information about the butterflies, their life and also about the nature. They got many interesting tips to safe the butterflies.
Monday
On Monday the students from Austria took part in the Aruban school system. They got to know different classes like Dutch, math, Spanish and much more :) It was very funny, how different the breaks and the whole school was. It was a nice opportunity to learn about different systems and to meet new people and get connected.
Tuesday
On Tuesday, the students got picked up at the “Colegio Arubano”. At first the headmaster took a speech about the school. After this, the prime minister took a speech about Aruba and the pandemic. Every school had a presentation about their school and presented it. We also got traditional Aruban food and something to drink.
At half past twelve, we went to the beach and played “get to know” activities in the sea and on land. After the games, we got some pizza to eat and something to drink. When we finished, we had free time.
At 7:00 pm, we all met at the “Bon Bini festival”, where we saw a good Karneval show. We danced with all the people from Aruba, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Croatia.
Wednesday
We met at 7:45 at the Colegio Arubano. At first, we had a call with a guy. He told us about marketing, how we can do it and after this we hat to find investors and people who support our comic book. After this, the Austrian and every country had to made a video about the comic book.
We had a small break and after this we had a workshop with a woman, who explained us the system in Aruba. Then we learned about sorting trash correctly. Then, we played some kahoots and were picked up by the host families.
Thursday
Our adventurous trip started in Colegio Arubano, where we were picked up to drive into the Art District of Aruba – San Nicholas. After a tour and a tasty breakfast, we got into vehicles, where we had fantastic drives to many different sight-seeing spots – for instance the Lighttower, Casibari or Ayo. At the Lightower, some students tried coconuts, and everyone had another opinion about the taste. We ate lunch and explored the nature and took some pictures together.
After the wonderful experience, we went to the beach with most of the students and spent there a good day filled with fun and unexpected incidents.
Friday
Our day started very early at the “Arashi-Beach”, where we got introduced into the world of micro-plastics (even on the beach). After we got our sand to analyze, we went to the school to filter and analyze it.
After a lunch, we went to a “Plastic Beach Party”, where we washed plastic to send it to a recycling company. It was an important act for our planet.
Saturday
On Saturday we went for a hike in the national park and learned about the animals nativ to Aruba. After that we took a bus back to the school and from there, we went to the aloe factory. Aruba is famous for their aloe products.
In the factory we looked through the shop and bought some souvenirs and joined a tour where the guide explained the history of aloe on Aruba.
Sunday
On Sunday we spent one of our last days in Aruba on the beach and just enjoyed the island. We went snorkeling and got to see sea turtles, many fish, and the beautiful underwater world of the Caribbean Sea. After our well spent day at the beach, we got ready for our dissemination party at night.
Colegio Arubano prepared a wonderful location with lots of good music and good vibes. We got our certificates and some gifts before we went to the afterparty at someone’s house. We enjoyed the last hours all together until we finally said goodbye to each other.
