Bilingualer Chemieunterricht in der 4.b-Klasse

The students had to investigate the properties of iron and sulphur in our chemical lab.

Iron is a grey element and attracted to a magnet. Sulphur is a yellow substance and non-magnetic. If the mixture of powdered iron and sulphur is heated in a test tube, the mixture starts to glow. Iron and sulphur form a compound called iron sulphide. It is a grey solid which is non-magnetic. The elements have lost their properties.

So we can summarize, that the properties of a compound differ from those of the elements which it is made of.
